VERY RARE & HARD TO FIND antique pair of globes by Ch. Dien, Paris ca 1850 ! terrestial & celestial globe mounted in a cast iron and brass meridan/ sphere and beautiful wooden base ( some differences between the two ) in good, acceptable condition of course traces of use and age ! small scratches both globes needs a good refreshment Total height : 48 cm/ total diameter 28 cm/ globes 22 cm
Charles Dien Father worked as an engraver for the Delamarche family around 1819. His son, Charles Dien (1809-1870), astronomer and cosmographer, was the author of several planetarium, terrestrial globes and celestial, including the one -this. He published several atlases on astronomical phenomena and in 1833 a description and use of the celestial globe. Dien son, made globes essentially between 1840 and 1850.
